What is is Spiney Oyster?
Spiney oyster is a sea animal that lives in subtropical waters. Spiny oyster, also known as spondylus, is a large family of mollusks. Sometimes, they are also referred to as thorny oysters or spondylids. Contrary to its name, spiny oysters are not actually oysters. Instead, they are most likely related to scallops.
According to research, spiny oysters are found at depths between 35 and 300 feet, attached to rocky reefs. They can be found from Cedros Island, Baja California to Ecuador and in the Sea of Cortez from Bahia de Los Angeles, Baja California to Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur.
This ring with its gorgeous orange/red depth of color with added silver detail in the setting as well as hand stamped design on the band.

The sterling bezel surrounding the heart, I kept simple to let the Rosarita speak for itself. The sterling ring band, I made more bold and is created from recycled sterling scraps that I melt then hand roll through a rollingmill to form the shape of the 1/2 round wire. I then form the wire into a round shape and solder. I doubled them up to give it a more substaitial and eye catching base and keeps the fabulous stone snug on the finger.
Most of my pieces are handmade, created one of a kind- one at a time.

I make all the jewerly myself. I usually start with sterling silver sheet and sterling silver wire (or Gold filled ) and forge it with hammers, saws, stamps,
hydraulic press, etc. and all most always, there is a silversmithing torch involved. I use genuine stones, unless noted and mainly sterling silver, but also love other metals like gold filled, gold bronze and I especially love pure gold when price isn't an issue for my customer. Sometimes I even play with brass or german silver when requested. I absolutely love making jewelry and am so happy I get to do this for a living.
